Term 2 Week 9

This week involved much learning connected to the Maori New Year celebration of Matariki. Our whakatauki for the month also reflected this theme.

Take a look at the Hangi and the Kowhai performance of the Matariki Macaerena in this movie.

Our big book this week, Haere Atu, also taught us some new words in te reo.
In maths we had great fun comparing how much water different sizes and shapes of containers could hold. There were some big surprises, we learnt that the tallest container does not always hold the most water!

=We have been practicing writing our sounds of the week on whiteboards and on paper, and continue to work on using the correct pencil grip.

Term 2 , Week 7 and 8

This blog shows you some of the highlights from the last 2 weeks. Our whakatauki for June is based around the Maori New Year festival of Matariki

We have also learnt 2 new Maori kupu to add to our growing vocabulary.

We continued our Matariki theme in art when we used sponges to print the 7 Matariki stars surrounded by a kowhaiwhai pattern.

In drama we re-enacted the Matariki legend and then wrote about it using a 3 part plan to help our thinking.

In maths we made our own counting backwards patterns showing off how we can count backwards from 10 and with a bit of help from 20.

Sam taught us a new adding with 5 game called Murtle the Turtle.
Our news groups are going well with some good sharing of ideas and well thought out questions.
We are building up a great kete of words we can read and spell through our weekly Tricky Word practice.

On Friday we enthusiastically took part in the whole school cross country ...finishing just before the rain set in.

Term 2 Week 6

Welcome to our Week 6 blog post.

Te kupu o te wiki

Our poem this week linked to the sound 'w' that we were practicing. Take a listen to our Worms Wiggle poem.
On Wednesday Sebbie's mum helped us to draw pictures for using on our art panel in the Junior Adventure Playground. We learnt how to draw kingfishers and some of the food they might eat.

Sam helped us to understand more about capacity by sharing the story of Mr Archimedes' Bath.
We are getting very skilled at our high frequency words and thinking about tall and short letters.

On Thursday Sarah from the Environment Centre came to visit us again. This time she helped us to learn how we can have a zero waste lunch box.

Our sports lesson with Jane was, as always, packed with energy and fun

On Friday in our maths rich task we investigated the different ways we could pay for a $1 juicy.

It is great to see everyone so focused on their reading at browse box times.

This week in Discovery Time we watched a video of the story ' How Full is Your Bucket" and then we tried to fill as many people's buckets as we could

Finally, we hope you enjoy this week's Discovery Time slide show. We certainly love reading all your comments, thank you.
