Term 4 Week 3

Haere mai and welcome to our Room 10 Week 3 Term 4 blog.
News this week featured a rather spectacular birds nest.
We learnt all about magic 'e' with 'i' with a little help from a friend.
Our fairy tale focus for this week was the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We sequenced the story in our reading rotations....
......looked at words with 'ff' endings and alternative story endings through our Billy Goats Gruff poem.
.... and retold the in writing story by using a 3 part plan.
In art we continued with our fabric sun project, this time we used warm coloured fabrics to weave  using a paper plate as the loom.
A birthday saw special treats for the birthday girl and also for the rest of us, thank you!
In our maths lesson we had lots of fun using the feely box to describe shapes for our friends to guess.
In No Child Left Inside we practiced our relay skills.

Term 4 Week 2

Kia ora and welcome to our Room 10 Blog for Week 2 of Term 4.
It is great to see reading going on in so many different ways in and outside the classroom, with teachers, with reading buddies and in our reading rotation groups.

Our Rich Maths task with Sam looked at how many carriages would be needed for different numbers of passengers. We used a variety of different ways to solve this problem.

The weather stayed dry for both our tennis lesson and our high jump training this week.
In Art we have been learning  how different fabrics are made by first of all deconstructing them and....
..then having a go at making our own weavings using paper.
As part of our writing focus on narratives we worked on a 3 part retelling of the big book: Bubble Trouble. First Shaelea modelled what to do,,,,,
....then we did our own versions of the story.....
...and finally we shared our stories with the rest of the class.

As always Discovery Time on Friday was buzzing with role play, creativity and lots of relating to others.

Term 4 Week 1

Kia ora and welcome to our first blog of Term 4. Our Whakatauki for October is....

Our first week back started with a Powhiri to welcome Whaea Pip into her role as our new Principal.
We loved her korowai, or cloak, but she does not always wear it. We are wondering if she will wear it at our  Powhiri for the school inspectors visiting next week

Our rich task in maths looked at rakhi bracelets that are worn by people in India. We had to work out different ways of arranging 9 dots of 3 different colours without the same colours touching.

Look at all the different combinations we found. I wonder what would happen if we did the same thing with 4 colours and 12 dots?

We have started our inquiry topic called 'King of the Castle". First of all we are learning about different types on materials and how they can be joined together and then we are going to use our learning to make a dragon friend for Doodle our Room 10 dragon who is feeling lonely. Then in pairs we are going to design and make castles. Here are some of the objects we found in class made of fabric, paper, foam, metal, wood and plastic. Can you find something made from each of these materials at home?

We have a new teacher for our weekly No Child Left Inside sports lesson. His name is Brody and he had some really cool ideas to help us learn about long jump.

Later in the week we had the first of 4 tennis lessons with Andre. We listened really carefully and all had a great "I can" attitude. We are looking forward to next week's lesson.

Now that the weather is getting warmer we are enjoying having our milk and story time outside. This is us at the end of last term , but now we all have our hats on to keep us 'Sun Safe".
It has been lovely to have Shaelea with us in class, she is very good at reading stories and helps us with our reading and writing. We are all so pleased that you are with us for another 3 weeks Shaelea.

The week ended with the much anticipated Mask Parade. Well done all of our Nelson Central friends, you were amazing. Despite a very long wait at the start and the wind blowing masks away you all had a big smile on your face still when we got to the end.

End of Term 3

What a lot we got up to in the last few weeks of Term 3. We had a great visit to the Nelson Museum to see the Dinosaur Exhibition. Thank you to the adults who came along and did a great job running the different activities.

With Sam we had heaps of fun working on a maths rich task about the Wild Things.

In Week 8 Discovery we were busy using the key Competency of Language, Symbols and Text making signs for our cafe, arrows to show people how to find us and of course, taking orders.

On Friday night Tracy managed to spot a few Room 10 friends , despite them being in disguise, at the school disco.

The fun continued up to the end of term with Spring trees being created on Tux Paint....

More fun and games with Jane ......

.......and some great cooperation to help us put together our dinosaur jigsaws.
