We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for our teachers, Tracy and Sam and Mark our trainee teacher aide, who are a little older. This blog lets you know what we
have been up to and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people
think about our class so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Term 1 Week 3

Welcome to our 2nd Room 10 blog for 2015. This week we have been learning the sounds 'i' and 'p' and making them out of playdough. We have also been learning the tricky words 'my' and 'we'.
In Art we continued to think about the sound 'p' by drawing and painting some spectacular pink pigs.

Later in the week we made and tasted some p...p..pp...popcorn.

We got out the iPads this week and worked on the Letter School app to practice our handwriting. Check out the image below to find the app on Google Images.

In maths we have been ordering numbers to 10 and thinking about numbers that come before or after numbers in this range. We also made a pictogram of our birthdays which is on the wall in the classroom...take a look next time you are in.

We have also been practicing the days of the week with our favourite song of the week.

Thursday was Chinese New Year and we learnt about the Chinese New Year story with the help of the video below and found out which animal from the Chinese calendar represented each of our Room 10 friends. We have rats, tigers and ox's in our class.

On Friday Room 7 shared their Chinese New Year play with us.

This week we started using our browse boxes for extra reading practice after morning tea. It is great fun to share books with our friends. We bring home a book from our browse boxes for the weekend.

On Friday we met our Room 5 buddies again and had our photos taken together. watch out for them on the wall in our classroom later this week.

Although our Discovery Time this Friday was quite short I spotted some excellent examples of this week's key Competency of Relating to Others, especially when positioning the giant tube we were using.

Finally don't forget to check out our scary spider paintings and writing on the Kidzstuff blog, follow the link at the top of the side panel on this page.
